As Bungie continues to grow the universe of Destiny 2, the studio has not been shy about pulling from the deepest parts of its lore to build the in-game narrative experience. Characters and events only spoken about in the lore, previously, are regularly finding their way into the main game and are causing more theories to arise from the game's lore community about what may be on the horizon. This continues to be the case inside the game's latest season, Season of the Haunted, as a new glaive has the lore community talking again about one of its longest-standing mysteries.
Season of the Haunted is the current season of content for Destiny 2 and sees the return of Calus' Leviathan, now hanging ominously in orbit around the Moon. Guardians join Eris Morn, Crow, Zavala, and Empress Caiatl in investigating the massive ship overrun by darkness and nightmares after somehow communing with the dormant Pyramid ship discovered under the Moon's surface in 2019's Shadowkeep. Crow, Zavala, and Caiatl also find themselves haunted by nightmares of their past and must confront these in hopes of stopping Calus from following in Rhulk's footsteps and becoming a disciple of The Witness.

However, the new glaive from Season of the Haunted appears to suggest another disciple of The Witness may be a mysterious character who has stumped the Destiny lore community for nearly five years — Nezarec. The glaive, Nezarec's Whisper, is the focus of Reddit user birdsong04's post, saying the weapon's lore confirms this mysterious character is real and was connected to The Witness.
