With Netflix tackling a live-action adaptation of Sony's Horizon Zero Dawn, the streaming service can improve upon one major aspect of the games. Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the more popular Sony exclusives of recent years, naturally leading to an adaptation in either film or TV—with Netflix opting for the latter. The game tells the story of Aloy, a young girl in a post-apocalyptic future in which the survivors of Earth have splintered into primitive tribes, who ventures out into a world filled with deadly animal-like machines to save the planet from an unknown threat.
One of the highlights of the Horizon franchise is its story, with the setting allowing for a number of original ideas. These ideas have led to the game's popularity, alongside the incredibly addictive and complex gameplay mechanics that offer hours and hours of runtime. Netflix adaptations of late have had some problems, meaning the story is one of the main things Netflix will have to get right. However, one aspect of the game's story can only be improved upon given the switch from videogames to TV.

This aspect is how the game regularly gives glimpses into the past, and the world before it fell to ruin. The game is set in the 31st century, with Aloy exploring the fall of mankind through glimpses of ancient technology that are over 1000 years old. Through Aloy's Focus, a small earpiece that lets her interact with the more technologically advanced aspects of the old world, the game gives players glimpses of the past through holograms and data points.
