Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series casts actor James Sie in his original role from the animated series. Sie is both an actor and voice actor, with such past roles as voicing Jackie Chan in Jackie Chan Adventures, Kwan in Danny Phantom, and the Cabbage Merchant in Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender. Aside from being an accomplished actor, Sie is also an author, with his most recent novel, All Kinds of Other, published in May 2021.
Sie's Cabbage Merchant character from Avatar: The Last Airbender offers comic relief to the adventure series. While Aang and the gang are traveling through the different kingdoms, the Cabbage Merchant becomes a running joke in the series. He often finds himself caught between Aang's group and their various enemies, resulting in someone accidentally destroying the Cabbage Merchant's cart. Afterward, the Cabbage Merchant yells, "my cabbages!" The Cabbage Merchant's legacy continues past Avatar: The Last Airbender, as the Cabbage Merchant's son (also voiced by Sie) appears in The Legend of Korra as the CEO of Cabbage Corp.
