The wait is almost over for the NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’icrossover. The original series', following the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, will join together for a special episode for season 1 of the franchise’s newest addition, NCIS Hawai’i, which is different from other spin-offs. The CBS show has a history of producing high-octane drama that brings NCIS teams from different shows together, and this will likely be no different.
As with previous crossovers, members of both NCIS and NCIS Hawai’iwill work together to solve a Navy-related murder in the upcoming story. The first crossover in the NCIS universe aired in 2009, entitled “Legend: Part 1,” and the follow-up “Legend: Part 2”, which acted as an introduction to NCIS: Los Angeles. In 2014, former chief special agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the team helped introduce the second spin-off show, NCIS New Orleans, with the two-part crossover, «Crescent City (Part I),» followed by «Crescent City (Part 2)».

Over the years, NCIS has seen a number of successful crossovers both inside and outside the NCIS universe, such as Hawai'i Five-0. Crossovers usually occur in TV shows that run on the same network as a way to promote each other.
