WhatsApp is used by millions worldwide as their primary means of communications. Since its launch in November 2009, WhatsApp has grown by leaps and bounds with constant updates and new features such as disappearing messages, voice and video calls. WhatsApp users had the option of using the app on a PC or laptop through the browser. Now, parent company Meta Platforms has launched its all-new native WhatsApp desktop app.
Earlier, those who wished to use WhatsApp on their laptops had to download the web-based version of the app using WhatsApp through the browser using WhatsApp Web. This native WhatsApp app allows users to directly download it without the hassle of using it through a browser.
In a blog, WhatsApp said, “Today we're introducing a desktop app so you have a new way to stay in touch anytime and anywhere - whether on your phone or computer at home or work. Like WhatsApp Web, our desktop app is simply an extension of your phone: the app mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device.”
The app is available for Windows 8+ and Mac OS 10.9+ users. Since it is a native app, users will get native desktop notifications, keyboard shortcut flexibility and many more user improvements.
To download the app, visit https://www.whatsapp.com/download from your desktop browser.
Then, open the app and scan the QR code using the WhatsApp app on your phone.
Open the WhatsApp Web option under Settings in the WhatsApp app to scan the code.
The desktop app will let you seamlessly communicate with your friends and colleagues the same way the mobile app does. So, give the all-new WhatsApp desktop app a try yourself!
