Warning! SPOILERS for Better Call Saul season 6, episode 3.
The final season of Better Call Saul pulls no punches, with episode 3, «Rock and Hard Place» dealing a major blow to its repertoire of memorable characters with the death of Nacho Varga, who proved himself to be a Walter White of sorts for the spin-off series. Played by Michael Mando, Nacho has been a vital addition to Better Call Saul after only being previously referenced in Breaking Bad alongside Lalo, and the character has traversed a rocky road from Cartel enforcer to unwitting informant for Gustavo Fring during the course of the spin-off series. If this all sounds familiar, it’s because it closely mirrors Walter White’s motivations and trajectory over the course of Breaking Bad. There have been theories and speculation aplenty regarding Nacho’s ultimate fate and what the character would represent for Better Call Saul. Now that Nacho’s journey has finally come to an end, the parallels between him and Walt are hard to ignore. It turns out that Nacho and Walt have a lot of things in common, and Nacho’s tragic demise not only solved a Breaking Bad mystery but it also proved that he was indeed Better Call Saul’s version of Walt.
