MultiVersus is getting a large update next week which will add “lots of cool things”, its director has confirmed.
When the game’s closed alpha launched in May the main menu had two icons greyed out, and these remain grey now that the game’s in open beta.
These icons refer to a Guilds feature, where players will be able to join groups, and a Store which will presumably feature a rotating selection of cosmetics.
After being asked by a Twitter follower when these features would be added to the game, director Tony Huynh replied that they were still on the way, but that other features would be added first.
“The team is working to get Guilds and the Store, but it will still be a little bit out,” Huynh replied.
“Our main focus is still core systems, stability, and bug fixes. The patch next week will be one of our biggest ones yet, which adds a lot of cool things. We’re getting closer every day.”
MultiVersus is currently in its first main season, and developer Player First Games has already confirmed that the game will be getting a ‘Classic Arcade mode’ and a ‘new Ranked mode’ at some point during the course of the season, which ends in November.
Morty from the animated series Rick & Morty was added to the game last week, and over the course of Season 1 he’ll be joined by Rick, as well as Stripe from Gremlins and DC antihero Black Adam.

A datamine of a recent update also uncovered voice lines for Beetlejuice and the Wicked Witch from The Wizard of Oz, suggesting they may be added during Season 1 as well.
Publisher Warner Bros Games stated last week that MultiVersus surpassed 20 million players in its first month.
