Player First Games went from teasing to confirming to releasing Gizmo in within the span of a week. The little Mogwai is finally out today on September 8 and the team has released a trailer and detailed gameplay breakdown to mark the occasion.
The Gizmo showcase goes over most of his moves and his unique playstyle. Gizmo can shoot a pretty standard arrow, but charging it up lights the arrow on fire. It can even be canceled and stored after being charged, meaning the next arrow will be fully lit and quickly shot.
This arrow also plays into two of his other attacks. Gizmo can toss balls of very floaty popcorn into the air, which don’t cause hitstun but can damage opponents. However, they are more useful when shot with an arrow, as firing at these balls causes them to blast out a cone of damage that is far more lethal.
Gizmo can also sing and leave little musical notes strewn around. These notes buff allies who grab them by giving them a dodge move that causes damage and debuff foes who run into enough of them by keeping them from using abilities for a short period of time. Notes can also be shot with an arrow or attached to the popcorn balls which can also then be shot, combining Gizmo’s three signature moves to make one powerful combo.
His ability to cling to his ally also showcases his support side. While attached, he use some of his attacks (like the arrows and popcorn) without getting interrupted, aiding his ally’s offense without fear of getting knocked around. He still takes some of the damage his ally receives and there is a brief cooldown on being able to reattach, which is meant to balance out this strong tool.
