Player First Games co-founder Tony Huyhn has announced that the open beta test for MultiVersus--the Warner Bros crossover fighter featuring Shaggy, Batman, and more--will cease on June 25, with the game's full launch now planned for «early 2024.» The move comes as a surprise, as despite being labeled as a beta, many players didn't expect the existing version of the game to be taken offline, let alone for what could be six or more months.

, Huynh references the feedback received during the nearly year-long beta test as a major reason for the decision, with the «content cadence of new characters, maps and modes» cited as a specific focus going forward. The beta test has not seen a new roster addition, for example, since Marvin The Martian on November 15.

The game will still function in a limited capacity via offline modes, which will include access to The Lab training area as well as local offline matches. Costumes, characters, and other cosmetics already purchased--Founder's Packs were available at prices up to $100--will remain available in these offline modes, and all progress and purchases will also carry over when the game launches in full.
A FAQ regarding the decision has also been posted to the game's official website, which includes confirmation of the game's removal from digital storefronts early next month. All
