With Mortal Kombat 11, the latest game from NetherRealm Studios, having released over three years ago, a lot of fans are looking to see what the developer has lined up next.
Since Mortal Kombat 9 released in 2011, fans have seen a new game from NetherRealm every two years, as the studio has moved back and forth between its Mortal Kombat and Injustice IPs. However, Mortal Kombat 11's release marks the breaking of that cycle, which has led to increased anticipation that a new game may be on the way soon. There was even an expectation that the new title would be announced at the Game Awards 2021. However, NetherRealm made a statement following that event that its latest game wasn't yet ready to be shown.
