Return To Monkey Island, a true sequel to Guybrush’s original two adventures Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, is coming sometime this year and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
The game is being developedby Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox in collaboration with Devolver Digital and a new version of Lucasfilm Games. Original co-creator Dave Grossman is writing and designing alongside Gilbert and the voice of Guybrush Threepwood, Dominic Armato, will return to voice our iconic hapless hero.

The Monkey Island franchise has been dead and buried since the original Lucasfilm Games folded as part of the fallout from Disney’s acquisition of LucasFilm.
In 2016, Ron Gilbert went public offering to buy the rights to Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion, such is his desire to make more entries in these iconic franchises.
Fast-forward six years and it looks as if Disney agreed to terms, as we are soon to play the first true sequel to a Monkey Island game since the early 1990s.
If you’re some Gen Z squit who likes funny puzzle adventures but has never heard of these games, I strongly suggest you check them out.
Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts became the epitome of entertaining adventure games in the 1990s, which created such classics as Sam & Max, Day Of The Tentacle and Grim Fandango, but is perhaps best remembered for the Monkey Island franchise.
In the years since two additional spin-off games were created, The Curse of Monkey Island and Escape From Monkey Island and an episodic adventure Tales From Monkey Island by Telltale Games in 2009.
