One of the new features coming to MLB The Show 22 is online co-op, which will let players team up with one or two other people. Friends can be invited to fill out a co-op squad or matchmaking can be used to find random teammates. Online co-op is available for single games as well as in Diamond Dynasty, where each players' collected lineups will be combined into one roster.
Single player has been updated with The Show 22 changing Road to the Show a bit, but online co-op will likely be a big draw for those with friends who also play the game. Unfortunately, matchmaking for online co-op is only against random opponents at launch, so four or six friends cannot set it up to play against each other. During the setup phase, the team Captain will be selected, though, with the chosen player taking over managerial responsibilities like substitutions and bullpen calls during the game.

Once the game has actually started, players rotate through on-field positions on an inning-by-inning basis. With online co-op teams of two, one player pitches and catches while the other controls all infield and outfield players, switching roles every inning. When a third is added, the fielding duties are split with one person controlling infield and another controlling the outfield, while pitching and catching is still combined for the third player. MLB The Show 22's new feature has players alternate while batting in 2v2, with players on teams of three stepping up to the plate every third batter.
