Xbox Series X/S users may be due to get ray-tracing for Minecraft soon, with the option now being rolled out to some Xbox Insiders. Ray-tracing is becoming a staple feature of current-generation games, giving users a more realistic gaming experience in part thanks to the power of the latest hardware from Microsoft and Sony.
Ray-tracing has become an expected feature in the current generation of gaming, as the rendering method uses algorithms to trace paths of light to create incredibly realistic lighting effects to create real-time light reflections, refractions, and shadows within games. Microsoft had announced in 2019 that ray-tracing would be brought to Minecraft, however, at that time the announcement was only in relation to the PC version. Xbox had used screenshots of Minecraft with ray-tracing enabled as part of its promotional material in the run-up to the Xbox Series X's release, to showcase what ray-tracing could do in games.
