Season 2 of Halo Infinite introduces Microsoft Office's iconic Clippy animated character as a Nameplate and Legendary Charm. Halo Infinite fans have rooted for Clippy-related content for quite some time, with one talented member of the community even designing a mock-up of Clip-E as Master Chief's AI assistant. While developer 343 Industries never added such a feature to the shooter, many held out hope that Clippy's return as a 3D emoji in Microsoft 365 would serve as the catalyst for the character's Halo debut.
Clippy originally hit the scene 25 years ago in Microsoft Office 97. The paperclip-shaped digital character sat at the bottom right corner of Office documents as an Office Assistant, a role it maintained for several years before being retired with the release of Microsoft Office 2007. Interestingly, Clippy's return to popularity spawned from a Twitter competition wherein the official Microsoft account asked followers to like a tweet 20,000 times if they wanted Clippy to replace the paperclip emoji in Microsoft 365. The tweet in question eventually garnered well over 100,000 likes. Microsoft Office users weren't the only ones clamoring for the character's resurrection.
