Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is often teased as a “dead game”, but that could not be further from the truth. The hit indie party game that exploded in popularity near the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic will now become free-to-play after spending the last two years as a purchasable work. The accessibility upgrades do not end there, as Fall Guys will also go multiplatform after only being available on PC and PlayStation 4. To top it all off, the cross-play features will also be improved. With all the updates the game is getting, it is safe to say that Fall Guys is currently in a good spot.
However, with a conversion to free-to-play comes an inability to profit from players simply purchasing the game. Usually, games like this have to resort to other tactics to make money, such as microtransactions, something that Fall Guys already has. If the game wants to continue attracting players beyond the initial hype surrounding it being free, it cannot afford to be distracted from quality-of-life improvements.
