Meta Quest 2 VR headsets are about to cost $100 more, making now the best time to pick one up and save on the cost. Normally, it would be expected that the price of a device would go down as the device ages. However, it looks like Meta is more confident in its Quest 2 headset than ever before, and confident enough that consumers will pay even more for it from next month.
The Meta Quest 2 was first announced in October 2020. At the time, it was still going by the Oculus Quest 2 name considering it was long before the world realized that Facebook would become Meta and rebrand the Oculus line in the process. In spite of the name change, the Meta Quest 2 has always cost the same, with the price starting at $299 in the US.

From next week, however, that’s about to change. In a new Meta post, the company confirmed that the price of the Meta Quest 2 headset will increase by $100 starting from August 1, 2022. This means that the 128GB version will cost $399 while the 256GB model will increase to$499. The announcement also confirmed that the various accessories will also increase in price. Likewise, refurbished models sold through the company’s online store will also jump by the same amount. Basically, if interested in buying a Meta Quest 2, it is probably worth buying it before the end of the month. For what it’s worth, Meta will be offering a download of Beat Saber for free to anyone who picks up a Meta Quest 2 at the higher price, so that may help to absorb some of the increase if buying after August 1st.
