In response to Disney's stance on the recent «Don't Say Gay» legislation in Florida, Marvel Comics writers Christopher Cantwell and Jordan Blum have said they are donating their entire pay from their most recent comics to an LGTBQ+ charity. Cantwell and Blum were among the many who shared support to the LGBTQ+ community, following Disney CEO Bob Chapek's response to Florida's recent legislation, which was criticized for not condemning the «Don't Say Gay» bill enough.
Disney was first criticized for the fact the company has donated to sponsors and co-sponsors of the Parental Rights in Education bill in Florida, otherwise known as the «Don't Say Gay Bill.» The bill, which recently passed, prevents teachers from teaching important LGBTQ+ topics and issues while allowing parents to sue teachers who do teach them in their classrooms. Disney CEO Bob Chapek took a few days to publicly respond on the topic before issuing a statement that simultaneously expressed support for the LGTBQ+ community but didn't denounce the bill or its proponents. However, LGBTQ+ employees, including animators, criticized Chapek's statement, admitting they were frustrated by Disney refusing to take a hard stance against the anti-gay bill. Now, Marvel writers are offering their support to the LGBTQ+ community.
