The first Nintendo Direct of the year has announced remastered versions of courses from classic Mario Kart games, starting from next month.
Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct packed in a lot of new announcements but the biggest wasn’t a new game but paid-for DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
The Booster Course Pass will cost £22.49 or is free if you have the Expansion Pack for Nintendo Switch Online. It will be released in six waves of eight courses each, which contain remastered tracks taken from multiple different games in the series.
Wave 1 will be released on March 18 and includes Coconut Mall from Mario Kart Wii, Choco Mountain from Mario Kart 64, and Tokyo Blur from mobile game Mario Kart Tour.
More DLC for Mario Kart 8 is something fans have been suggesting for a long time and while none of them are brand new, 48 courses for £22.49 does seem like a pretty good deal.
The final wave won’t be released until 2023 though, which seems to suggest that rumours of a brand new Mario Kart are false, as it would be very odd for Nintendo to release a new game at the same time as DLC for the old one.
Very odd is Nintendo in a nutshell though, including the fact that they didn’t make a single reference to Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 during the 40 minute Nintendo Direct.
They warned beforehand that the Direct would only focus on games due out in the first half of the year but they got as far as September with the closing announcement of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, so that suggests that the new Zelda is either after that or has been pushed back into 2023.
The fact that Nintendo didn’t even mention Zelda suggests that they’re not sure themselves yet, but certainly it won’t be out in the first half of this year.
