HBO releases an official Los Espookys season 2 trailer, celebrating the show's long-awaited return. The series, which premiered season 1 on HBO on June 14, 2019, was co-created by and stars Julio Torres, Ana Fabrega, and Fred Armisen. Both Armisen and Torres are best known for their tenures on Saturday Night Live, where Armisen was a cast member for 11 years and Torres was a writer for three. Although their tenures did not overlap, the two met when Armisen returned to host an episode of the sketch show in 2016.
In addition to its three creators, Los Espookys (which is presented alternately in Spanish and English, with subtitles that switch languages when its characters do) also stars iconic actress Carol Kane alongside Bernardo Velasco and Cassandra Ciangherotti. Velasco plays Renaldo, a horror fan and Mexican native who decides to create a horror company with his friends. While nobody seems to fully understand what this means at first, the company starts to get more and more gigs from various strange clients, including a job faking a haunting in a mansion to scare people out of staying overnight in an attempt to earn an inheritance from the rich owner's will. Each episode presented a new challenge for the group, with the results providing fodder for the show's surreal comic sensibility.
