Loki is gearing up to return for season 2 and now season 1 director Kate Herron is opening up about why she's not back at the helm. Created by Michael Waldron, the series picked up after the events of Avengers: Endgame as the 2012 version of Loki that escaped with the Tesseract is captured by the Time Variance Authority and threatened with erasure from existence if he doesn't help track down a variant of himself killing TVA agents. Upon meeting his variant, Sylvie, Loki elects to partner with the troubled Asgardian to learn the secrets behind the TVA and the mysterious Time Lords in the hopes of creating their own futures.
Tom Hiddleston returned to lead the cast of Loki alongside Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong, Sasha Lane, DeObia Oparei, Richard E. Grant and Jonathan Majors. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike for the performances of its cast, sci-fi storytelling and surreal production values. Loki also set a streaming record to become the most-watched MCU series on Disney+ nearly a year after it premiered and having been followed by three other shows.
