A LEGO Brawls announcement trailer shows off some similarities, and many major differences, when compared to the Super Smash Bros. series. The brick-based brawler will embrace the creativity of LEGO by letting players customize their character's appearance and abilities. Announced during a February 2022 Nintendo Direct, LEGO Brawls has now given fans a first glimpse at its Super Smash-style gameplay.
Since its first installment, released back in 1999, the Super Smash Bros. franchise has inspired an entire genre of platform fighting games. The beloved crossover series brings together characters from various Nintendo franchises and challenges players with knocking each other off the stage. The concept of a multi-property crossover game, along with controls that are easy to learn but difficult to master, has led to many Smash Bros. clones over the years. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, for example, is a platform fighting game that features a roster of cartoon characters like Spongebob Squarepants and Avatar Aang. Upcoming fighting game MultiVersus, meanwhile, combines various Warner Bros. properties including DC Comics, Game of Thrones and Looney Tunes.

Now a new trailer for LEGO Brawls, posted to YouTube by Bandai Namco, shows off the game's plastic platforming combat. Setting itself apart from other platform fighting games, LEGO Brawls will allow players to completely customize their player character using a collection of LEGO minifigure parts. Collecting power-ups and upgrades will let gamers improve their character over time to help them reach the top of a global leaderboard.
