Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series gets a PC release date for early July

The PC needs every mascot platformer it can get, which is why I was pleased to see that ports of the Klonoa games were announced earlier this year. Now that the dust has been given time to settle, the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series has finally gotten a release date, albeit not an extremely close one. The collection releases in July, so we’ve got a couple of months and some change to go before we can hop back into these classics and platform with the best of them. I don’t know about you, but it’s been way too long since I last played one of these games.

Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series will launch on Steam and, well, pretty much everything else on July 8. The remaster is said to include Klonoa: The Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil, but, from the looks of it, the version of the first game appears to be the remake for the Wii. And that is preferable, honestly, but I can’t stand PS1 graphics in this day and age, so I’d imagine some people will take umbrage with this decision. Why use the one from 1997 when the one from 2008 will do, right?

None of the other Klonoa games will be included in this collection. The decision makes sense, as some of them were never released outside of Japan. These include Klonoa: Midnight Museum, a black-and-white Wonderswan-exclusive sidescroller, Klonoa: Empire of Dreams, a 2D Game Boy Advance title that did get released here, a beach volleyball game that saw release in Japan and Europe. There was also a sequel to the GBA game, and an action-RPG.

While it’s a bummer that only a tiny bit of the series is reflected here, the two main games included are absolutely the crux of the franchise. So at least there’s that.
