It turns out that one of the newest Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works might never have gotten the green light, if not for Kit Harrington. Now that a Jon Snow-centric GOT spinoff is coming, the author of the books that started it all is crediting Harrington as the one who came up with the idea for the new show.
Jon Snow was played by Kit Harrington in the original series and for a while, it looked as though the character might take on the mantle of king of all the realms. However, in the end it was his half-brother who ascended to the throne as a kind of peace offering to some of the disparate factions that were all fighting for representation after Westeros fell. While a Game of Thrones prequel has been in the works for a while and is due to hit television soon, it appears the new spinoff would be continuing the story from the original series, with a different focus.

While the Jon Snow spinoff has been known for a little while, the idea that Harrington was the one who came up with it is a relatively new revelation. Emilia Clarke broke the news in a recent interview, saying that Harrington was the one who created the idea and is developing the show. Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin wrote on his blog that it was indeed Harrington who «brought the idea» to them.
Collider reports that beyond the fact that the Jon Snow actor came up with the spinoff idea that focuses on Jon Snow, Martin said that there isn't a ton of new information he can provide at this time. He added that he can't say anything until HBO Max says it's something that can be discussed openly.
