A game-breaking bug has been reported in the port of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards for the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion. This report comes less than a day after the title's launch on the Nintendo Switch Online library. Kirby 64 is another Nintendo 64 port that has encountered issues in its Switch re-release.
Reception to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion online service has been divisive since its launch in 2021. The Nintendo Switch Online service, on its own, offers online gaming services such as multiplayer, cloud saves, and voice chat via a companion phone app, while the Expansion tier adds exclusive access to several classic games including Nintendo 64 ports. Though Nintendo has provided consistent updates to the quantity of content and has also endeavored to fix lingering issues, fans have been critical about the price of the Expansion tier and the overall quality of the Nintendo 64 game ports.

A recent publication by Nintendo Everything reported that Reddit user keyblademasternadroj encountered a critical bug unique to the Kirby 64: Crystal Shards Switch port. The video shows the game in progress against the underwater boss Acro. The Reddit user suffers a hit against the boss and is immediately rendered helpless. The Reddit user claims that receiving damage from certain sources while underwater can permanently stun-lock Kirby, preventing further inputs. The only option a player has at that point is to exit the level completely.
