Shinji Hashimoto has been with Square Enix for nearly three decades since he first joined the JRPG developer in 1995 when the iconic studio was still named Squaresoft. Hashimoto served as the brand manager for the Final Fantasy franchise during an era that saw some of the long-running series' most widely acclaimed games like Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 10-2. Hashimoto is also credited as one of the co-creators of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, serving as producer or executive producer on every Kingdom Hearts game to date. Now, Hashimoto has officially announced today will be his last day with the legendary developer.

Shinji Hashimoto officially announced his retirement from Square Enix to the world through his Twitter account Tuesday morning, marking the end of a 27-year-long tenure with the studio. Hashimoto will leave behind a legacy at Square Enix that has seen him serve not only as a figurehead for the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy franchises, but also as executive producer on The World Ends With You and its sequel.
