Candy Crush maker King has announced it’s to close Crash Bandicoot mobile game On the Run early next year.
The endless runner, which launched globally in March 2021, will see its servers closed on February 16, 2023, after which the game will no longer be playable.
And from today, December 18, all in-app purchases will be turned off, King said. For any purchases made, players will have until February 16, 2023 to make use of associated purple crystals in-game.
“It has meant so much to bring your favourite Crash characters to life and we’ve sincerely loved making this game,” King said in a statement. “Thank you for spending your time with us and we hope you will join us in one of our many other games.”
Following months of speculation, a new Crash Bandicoot console game was announced at The Game Awards earlier this month. The game, developed by Crash Bandicoot 4 studio Toys For Bob, will be named Crash Team Rumble.
The game is a team-based platformer where players control either the heroes or villains in a “team-vs-team rumble”.
“Join the heroes and villains of the Crash universe as they face off in an epic team vs team Wumpa-collecting, island-hopping championship,” the game’s official blurb reads.
