The newest game in the Kao the Kangaroo series will be released this summer, it’s been confirmed.
Kao the Kangaroo started life in 2000 as a 3D platformer on Dreamcast and PC, with a sequel called Kao the Kangaroo Round 2 released on the PS2, GameCube and Xbox.
The last game in the series, Kao the Kangaroo: Mystery of the Volcano, was released on PC in 2005 and Kao hasn’t been in a new game since.
This will change in the summer, when a new Kao the Kangaroo game is set for release.
The new game will be developed by Tate Multimedia, the Polish studio that developed all the previous Kao games.
According to a statement, “Players will join Kao as he picks up his magical boxing gloves and travels the world confronting famous fighting masters who are under the influence of disturbing, dark power, all while exploring a colourful and vibrant world alive with activity and visual flair.”
Studio head Kaja Borowko has also said that the new Kao game won’t simply be a continuation of the previous titles, and will completely “reboot” the series.
“Throughout development, it’s been important to us to make sure Kao’s new adventure both feels like a tribute to his previous outings for existing fans, as well as a fresh, contemporary platformer for newcomers,” Borowko said.
“This is not a sequel, this is a complete reboot, and we can’t wait to see players young and old come together to take on the role of Kao once more this summer.”
The new Kao the Kangaroo game will be released this summer on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch and Steam.
