Way back in 2000, Kao The Kangaroo joined anthropomorphic platforming mascots like Sonic The Hedgehog with his debut game on PC and the ill-fated but fondly-remembered Sega Dreamcast from Polish developer Tate Multimedia, which was then operating under the name Titus Interactive. This initial adventure would receive average-to-positive reviews and spawn three sequels, though the series would go into a long hibernation after 2005's Kao the Kangaroo: Mystery of the Volcano.
Following the Steam re-release of Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2, fans rallied for a new sequel with the #BringKaoBack social media campaign. In late 2020, Tate Multimedia would grant their wish by announcing that Kao would return in a brand-new game with a colorful trailer. This new game, simply titled Kao The Kangaroo, has a tentative launch window of summer 2022, and Tate promises that it will be Kao’s “biggest adventure yet.”

Kao The Kangaroo’s story has the titular young marsupial setting out to rescue his sister Kaia and uncover the truth behind the disappearance of his long-lost father. To do this, he will have to travel the world, defeat legendary “fighting masters” that have been corrupted by a dark power, and challenge the mysterious Eternal Warrior to restore the balance of the land. The game contains a few clever puns and pop culture references here and there, but the plot is pretty standard for a kid-friendly platformer.
