What is Alex's backstory on Julie And The Phantoms and how did he die? Based on a Brazilian TV show of the same name, Julie And The Phantoms is a musical comedy-drama that aired its first season on Netflix in 2020. The title character Julie (Madison Reyes) is a 15-year-old high schooler and aspiring musician who has lost her passion for music following the death of her mother. However, when she accidentally summons a trio of ghosts who used to be in a 1990s band named Sunset Curve, she’s inspired to start making music again alongside them.
One of the late members of Sunset Curve is Alex (Owen Patrick Joyner) who played drums in the band when he was alive. In the second episode of Julie And The Phantoms, it’s revealed that Alex is gay and his parents weren’t too happy when he came out to them. Luckily, Alex had the support of his bandmates Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Reggie (Jeremy Shada) and Bobby (Taylor Kare) who became like a family to him. Things were going well for Sunset Curve back in 1995 too as they were about to play a gig that could’ve been their big break, but tragedy struck before the band hit the big time.
