Jio 5G details have been revealed and just like its 4G service launch back in 2016, the company will conduct a beta test for the same. The 5G service will begin from Dussehra across four Indian cities, which include Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Varanasi. Jio's 5G service will be Standalone 5G, which means it won't piggyback on Jio's 4G LTE service. Hence, you can expect extremely fast data speeds.
If you are interested in trying out Jio's 5G service, these are all the things you need to know.
1. Jio True 5G Welcome Offer is being launched in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Varanasi
2. Jio will only offer 5G service to its existing Jio Welcome customers by invitation only.
3. Customers will get Unlimited 5G data with over 1 Gbps speeds.
4. After the initial trial in four cities, Jio 5G's Beta trial service will come to other cities as the infrastructure gets ready.
5. The beta trial will continue for the users until the network coverage of the city is good enough.
5. Those who get the invitation will be automatically upgraded to the Jio True 5G service from the 4G service. There is no need to upgrade the SIM card or change to a special 5G SIM card; the 4G SIM will continue to stream 5G speeds.
6. Jio says it is working with all manufacturers to enable the 5G handsets to work with Jio True 5G services.
While Jio has made the formal announcement, Airtel is yet to announce any beta testing of its 5G service. However, Airtel has hinted at rolling out 5G services by Diwali across major Indian cities. Vodafone Idea is yet to make any announcement regarding its 5G service rollout. On the other hand, BSNL just announced its plans to jump into 5G services by August 2023.
