Apple’s strategy to ditch compact iPhone releases in exchange for the iPhone 14 Plus, which offered more screen real estate, can be termed as a failure by various industry watchers, but when compared against the competition, the 6.7-inch model actually did fairly well in the market for the Q1 2023 period. However, that does not mean that Apple will not revise its approach with the iPhone 15 Plus when the successor launches later this year.
We previously talked about the Galaxy S23 Ultra being the most popular Android smartphone for the Q1 2023 period, according to the data shared by Canalys, as it is the only iPhone 14 model that Samsung’s latest flagship beat for this quarter. Of course, it was not at all surprising to see the iPhone 14 Pro Max take the top spot for this period, which only means that there is a high chance that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will eventually carve the top spot in this chart next year as it is rumored to carry more exclusive features.
As for why the iPhone 14 Plus could not garner the same popularity as the rest of Apple’s 2022 flagship, we believe several reasons could have accounted for this setback. Firstly, charging a whopping $899 for the base model would discourage the majority of customers, especially when U.S. residents only had to add an extra $100 to the total, get themselves an iPhone 14 Pro, and enjoy a plethora of upgrades for the same 128GB of storage.
