Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward is giving fans some clarity on why it has changed up the way perks work in the new game, including making Dead Silence a Field Upgrade rather than a Perk. Recently, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 open beta began, giving players the chance to see what the game is like before they buy it later in October. During this beta test, Infinity Ward requested player feedback for Modern Warfare 2 so that it might be improved upon before release.
Plenty of issues were brought up when fans gave feedback on Modern Warfare 2's beta. While there were things that the beta got right, such as its Gunsmith 2.0 system, gunplay, and most of its maps, players did have some issues they hoped could be fixed. Enemy footsteps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 were outlined by many players as being something that needs to be changed. Infinity Ward promised alterations to footstep audio in the future, but regarding other requests for changes, it seems the developer is holding firm.

The Perk system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is something that has been highlighted by fans as being slightly questionable, but as outlined in the developer's latest Community Update, it appears that Infinity Ward believes in its new way of managing Perks. As well as providing its own opinion on many of the matters raised by players of the beta, Infinity Ward stated that, while the new perk system departs from the original, the changes are a «nice shakeup» to how matchmaking will work in Modern Warfare 2.
