Ikonei Island: How To Unlock Axepeckers

Shortly after beginning life in Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure, you will unlock the Longhorn. This is a dog-like creature that can destroy rocks. While this is very helpful, the Longhorn can't be used to destroy trees; this is where the Axepecker comes in handy. This is a bird with an axe-like beak, capable of cutting down trees and stumps.

In this guide, we are going to go over how to unlock the Axepecker. Additionally, we'll take a look at what exactly you can do with the Axepecker. Chances are, this will be the second creature that you unlock during your playthrough which means you will be able to chop down trees pretty early on in the game with this bird.

Prior to bonding with an Axepecker, you will first need to free them from a pirate outpost. Axepeckers in cages can be found within Froglet Cove, at an outpost in the southwest. In the image above, you can see the pirate outpost location highlighted.

To free the Axepeckers, you need to successfully make your way through the outpost and fire cannons at the pirates on raised platforms. This is a bit of a stealth puzzle; you will need to avoid being detected by pirates who are jumping back and forth on the ground.

Once you have fired cannons at all of the raised platforms, all of the pirates will disappear, allowing you to run through and free all the Axepeckers.

With the Axepeckers free, you can now find one to bond with. Select any Axepecker you release and bond with them; this will place an icon of your chosen character over their head. This means that
