Everything old is new again and sitcoms don't really have to die anymore with reboots, relaunches, and revivals. Hulu's upcoming sitcom Reboot takes the revival craze and makes fun of it along the way. Created by Modern Family co-creator, Steven Levitan, Reboot will premiere on Hulu on Tuesday, September 20 with three episodes at launch, with new episodes streaming weekly.
Reboot goes a bit more meta with this as it centers on Hulu rebooting an early 2000's family sitcom, forcing its cast back together for the first time in decades. There are definitely some 30 Rock vibes here, which actually did get a one-shot revival special in the midst of the early months of the pandemic in 2020. Check out the trailer below.
Speaking during the Television Critics Tour, Levitan talked about the biggest thing in the show that he wanted to address and that was the «political correctness» of modern sitcoms and how older stars address the generational shift. He said the show will reflect the time we live in and «more to the point, the times we work in.»
«I know a lot of people in comedy think the pendulum has swung too far, being politically correct and woke and all that,» Levitan told reporters today at the Television Critics Tour. «We are all so afraid, people are so ready to cancel somebody with one perceived misstep. I find that a fascinating time we are in. We are all trying to manage the 'what can you say, what can't you say, what's wrong with that, how is that offensive.' The whole interesting part is how sacred a writers room needs to be. People need the freedom to explore and say things.» It reflects the time we live in and more to the point, the times we work in.”
