The reveal trailer for Assassin's Creed Mirage was released yesterday as part of the series' 15th anniversary livestream, and fans have quickly picked up on a sequence in the reveal that is a very clear reference to fan-favourite Assassin's Creed 2.
Yesterday, Ubisoft held its first Ubisoft Forward showcase of 2022, providing updates on games like Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, The Division Heartlands, and Just Dance 2023. Those games were just the beginning however, as Ubisoft also revealed what's in store for Assassin's Creed over the next few years, including 2023's game, Assassin's Creed Mirage.

Although Ubisoft elected not to show any gameplay of Mirage, it did showcase a CG trailer that sets up the setting and characters, introducing the game as an origin story for Valhalla's Basim. Alongside doing that, it also had a cheeky wink to long-standing fans of the series in the form of a recreation of the Assassin's Creed 2 reveal trailer from 2009.
Towards the end of the trailer, Basim is seen running away from a group of guards before escaping from them by climbing to the rooftops. As Basim's target starts running away, he looks up to see the assassin perched on a wooden beam high above, before jumping down and landing on the ground below, causing the camera to show him slowly standing up from behind.
Basim then knocks off the mask of his target, assassinates them, and uses a feather across his throat to mark his assassination, a staple of the series. As any eagle-eyed (sorry) Assassin's Creed fan will likely know, this is a direct callback to the reveal trailer for Assassin's Creed 2, which featured Ezio doing the exact same thing, with many of the same
