How to Unlock the Shieldwing (Glider) In Horizon Forbidden West
The Shieldwing is the glider of Horizon Forbidden West and can be unlocked. It's been a staple for many open-world titles that were released throughout the last few years to feature some sort of glider. Popularized by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the Shieldwing Glider is used to prevent Aloy from plummeting to her demise. When jumping off cliffs or on top of dangerous monsters, Aloy can pull up the Shieldwing Glider to float away. It's an incredibly helpful terrain exploration item and can help players see some of the game's most beautiful views.
After unlocking the Shieldwing, make sure to enter the game's settings and enable Auto Shieldwing. This can be found in the Settings section under general and prevents Aloy from taking any fall damage as long as she has the Shieldwing. It will automatically deploy if Aloy gets too close to the ground. Fortunately, obtaining it isn't too difficult since it's part of the Horizon Forbidden West main story.

In order to unlock the Shieldwing Glider in Horizon Forbidden West, the player will need to complete the main story mission called 'The Embassy'. This is the mission that takes place right before Aloy makes her way to the Forbidden West. Since this is the fourth story mission in the game, it shouldn't take too long to unlock the Shieldwing Glider. It will make it much easier to explore the Forbidden West. It's recommended to be at least level 7 before attempting this mission.
For this mission, Aloy must travel to the Barren Light to attend this meeting. These are the steps needed to complete it.
