From the start of each match in Dread Hunger, the Explorers are tasked with moving their ship to the other side of the map and reaching open water by destroying the large iceberg that's blocking the exit. The iceberg can be destroyed with nitroglycerin, but it's difficult to obtain and even harder to deliver. In order to win on the Explorer team, players will need to work together to deliver the explosives safely while fighting off various groups of enemies, such as the cannibals in Dread Hunger.
Before Explorers can hope to destroy the iceberg and escape the Arctic, they will need to get the ship moving. The only way to move forward is to continuously fill the boiler with coal. Every player, whether they're an Explorer or a Thrall, starts the match with one coal, then this resource needs to be looted from various containers around the map. When there's fuel in the boiler, one player can steer the ship toward the iceberg. While the ship is moving, the bar at the top shows how close the ship is to reaching the other end of the map.
