Star Wars' Rangers of the New Republic was revealed to have been put on hold in May 2021, a few months after the firing of Gina Carano (who played Cara Dune), but there are still ways this show can happen, despite this character's absence. While Gina Carano's involvement in the show was never officially confirmed, it was all but a given with the shows' focus said to be on the enforcement of the New Republic, alongside outlet reports of Carano's participation in the series. With Cara Dune officially becoming a Marshal of the New Republic on Nevarro, it is safe to say Carano's character would've been a major plot point — if not the outright lead of Rangers of the New Republic.
Following the firing of Cara Dune's Gina Carano from Star Wars in February 2021, the show was put on indefinite hold a few months later. The president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, revealed that no scripts had been written and that some plot points and concepts for the series would instead be tied into the future of The Mandalorian. This seems like the logical route, given Lucasfilm's promise that Rangers of the New Republic, The Mandalorian, and the upcoming Ahsoka show would all build to a larger crossover event in the future.
