Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy introduced a ton of cosmic friends and foes to fans, with the most notable being Adam Warlock, who may become a playable character in the sequel. Adam Warlock has not even see his debut in the MCU, despite being a prominent character seen in various Guardians of the Galaxy comics throughout the teams creation. He plays a critical role in the story of Eidos-Montreal's Guardians of the Galaxy game and judging by the ending, it seems like he's going to stay as a part of the team in the sequel.

The game features the Universal Church of Truth who were key villains in the 2008 comics with ties to Adam Warlock. In the game, Warlock was their first «deity» who they worshipped. Powered by the soul stone, he healed and helped his acolytes throughout the galaxy, until he was betrayed by his close friend and companion, Raker. After abandoning the Church of Truth, Adam resides in a cocoon to heal himself, eventually awakened by the Guardians to bring Drax back to his senses after he becomes mind-controlled by the Church.

Guardians of the Galaxy introduces many Marvel heroes in its story. At the final cutscene of the game, the team — along with Adam Warlock, Nikki, and Mantis — are all hanging out in the Milano after defeating the Church. Adam messes around with their pet llama and the group has a laugh. Warlock laughs with them, being a little more light-hearted compared to when he first appeared earlier in the game.
