Small arenas in the major settlements, Melee Pits will provide a few services for you to jump into. However, the primary goal is the same - to practice and perfect the skills of melee combat.
The first Melee Pit can be found in Chainscrape, and is not one of the main three. Instead, this one serves as an introduction to what Melee Pits are. The Pit Master will walk you through the basics, and you'll be able to get started immediately.
They will tell you of other Melee Pits - the three main ones in the major settlements. If you complete the challenges of each, you will receive that Pit's token. Earn all three tokens to have the chance of facing The Enduring - the master of all Melee Pits.

The Melee Pits will offer Tutorials. You will be put in the pit with an opponent, and the Pit Master will teach you the basics. This can be as simple as light attacks, heavy attacks, and so on - however, there are also tutorials for every combo and special moves, which you will first need to unlock through the skill tree. When you do, though, it's worth heading back to a Melee Pit to check out the new skill.
