Despite getting review bombed in the first few days following its release, Horizon Forbidden West has been praised by both fans and critics as a great sequel to 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn. Sending Aloy on an adventure to the West Coast of a post-apocalyptic North America, there are a ton of additions to be found in this fresh setting. From new mechanics such as gliding and underwater exploration, to a whole host of new machines in Horizon Forbidden West, fans immediately were met with plenty of content in the second game.
Regarding the new machines, there were some deadly additions to the roster of mechanical foes. Perhaps none are more intimidating and lethal than the Apex Slaughterspine, an enemy that can give Aloy a thorough challenge at even the highest level in Horizon Forbidden West. According to one video as well, it seems that should a player take down the tough machine, that doesn't necessarily mean they get to walk away with their life.
Horizon Forbidden West Has Already Won a Game of the Year Award
As shown in a short clip by user AkinToTheBreach on Reddit, a Slaughterspine can kill the player even after it dies in Horizon Forbidden West. Just as the Slaughterspine takes lethal damage and begins to topple over, it lets fly a laser attack from its tail, splitting the ground in front of it and catching the player and their mount. This attack alone isn't enough to take Aloy down, its damage over time kills the player.
This is because the Slaughterspine's lasers apply the plasma elemental effect. Again, usually this wouldn't be enough to kill a player on its own, but AkinToTheBreach was venturing through Horizon Forbidden West on Ultra Hard difficulty, which will make most attacks from tough enemies a one-shot kill.
