It looks like the creator of Metal Gear is about to unveil a new horror game at Summer Game Fest, starring one of the actors from Death Stranding.
Gaming auteur Hideo Kojima is clearly working on something, possibly several somethings, at the moment but he’s never said exactly what, despite some earlier hints about wanting to make the ‘scariest horror game’ ever seen.
Recent rumours suggest he is in fact working on Death Stranding 2 but the talk of a new horror game has never gone away, despite reports last year that the project (or at least a horror project) had been cancelled by Google Stadia.
Whatever happened, a new rumour has now appeared suggesting he’s working on a new/the same project and that it’s called Overdose. One insider even claims to have seen footage of the game, although, as you’d imagine with a Hideo Kojima game, that doesn’t necessarily explain anything.
Supposedly the footage features actress Margaret Qualley, who played Mama in Death Stranding, who is controlled in third person but with an optional first person view also available.
The description suggests that the footage doesn’t involve anything more complicated than Qualley’s character walking down a dark corridor with a torch, followed by a jump scare and the words ‘A Hideo Kojima Game’… ‘OVERDOSE’.
The news was leaked by the usually reliable Tom Henderson via Try Hard Guides but he only refers to it as ‘early footage’, even though the description sounds like a teaser trailer.
More to the point, it sounds like a teaser trailer for something that could easily turn up at the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase on Sunday or Summer Game Fest.
