A severe security threat warning has been issued for Windows 10 and Windows 11 users regarding a severe security patch. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-In) has issued a warning for multiple high-severity vulnerabilities affecting various versions of Windows. The agency has flagged a security vulnerability that can affect Windows Defender, that secures Windows from malware, viruses, etc. The vulnerability is marked as ‘severe' as it allows hackers to gain access to the victim's computer. Cert-In has warned that the vulnerabilities existing in these versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11 can easily bypass the operating system's security restriction.
According to the CERT-IN, the threat exists due to a flaw in the Credential Guard component of the Windows Defender. They say, “privilege escalation and security bypass vulnerabilities have been reported in Windows Defender Credential Guard which could allow a local authenticated attacker to bypass security restrictions and gain elevated privileges on the targeted system." The agency has asked users to install the appropriate patch for the Windows Defender.
