WB Games Montreal's Gotham Knights seems to take inspiration from DC's New 52 reboot for some of its busy and overdesigned cosmetic suits. The open-world superhero title will see Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood become Gotham City's premier protectors following the untimely death of Batman. All four of the core Bat-Family members will be available to control at the player's leisure, with co-op in Gotham Knights letting two players team up for some multiplayer mayhem. However, with four characters to choose from, some fans feel that too many cosmetics share issues with DC's New 52 hero designs.
Following 2011's Flashpoint crossover event, DC Comics launched a company-wide revamp called The New 52. The initiative saw all of the publisher's titles canceled and relaunched as first issues, giving a fresh start to decade-long runs of comic series like Detective Comics and Action Comics. The New 52 also served to update and modernize the comic universe's iconic characters, with major changes to the Batman family including a miraculous recovery for Barbara Gordon following her paralysis at the hands of the Joker. While every past Robin retained their history when DC transitioned into the New 52, popular Batgirl characters Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain were wiped from continuity. The New 52 also prevented Batwoman's marriage to partner Maggie Sawyer, but Batman: Arkham Knight fixed this New 52 controversy in an Easter egg.
