A newly-revealed batch of God of War Ragnarok merchandise hints at the highly-anticipated sequel's mysterious release date. The second installment in Santa Monica Studio's epic Norse saga was announced back in 2020, but there is still no confirmed release date for Kratos and Atreus' next adventure. Recently God of War Ragnarok was rated in Korea, and the appearance of merchandise makes an impending announcement seem even more likely.
The God of War franchise was once known for its hack-and-slash gameplay and Greek mythological setting, but the series' 2018 installment served as a fresh start for protagonist Kratos. The story transitioned into Norse myth, and gameplay adopted a more methodical action role-play system. The game tells the story of Kratos and his young son Atreus, who find themselves embroiled in a godly tale that shapes the future of the Norse world. God of War Ragnarok is set to conclude this story in truly epic fashion, though little has been seen of the sequel's gameplay or story. Developer Santa Monica Studio has insisted upon a 2022 release date for God of War Ragnarok, however, so the title should launch in the later half of this year.
