Although has well over 50 playable characters in the game, certain weapon and element combos are still missing from the roster. Though they feature unique designs and play styles compared to the rest of the characters, 3.5 characters Dehya and Mika bring no new weapon and element combinations to the table. However, there are very few of these that still don't exist in the game, so it seems likely that players will have a character of each type combo in the near future.
Currently, there are five playable weapons and seven elements in, meaning there are 35 potential weapon and element type combinations in the game. Despite having numerous characters, many overlap their type combos with other existing characters. For example, three Pyro/Claymore wielders, Diluc, Dehya, and Xinyan all share the same type combo. With the recent announcement of character Kaveh however, who wields a Claymore and possesses a Dendro Vision, fans can almost complete their collection of characters with every type combination.

Out of 35 weapon and element combinations in, two are not included or announced so far — Cryo/Catalyst and Hydro/Claymore. Speculation points to a Cryo/Catalyst character potentially being difficult to balance in the game, as it would be able to constantly apply the Cryo element and create consistent Freeze Reactions. A Hydro/Claymore character seems easier to fit into the current design of, but the game may be waiting to introduce this type of character until the release of 's Hydro region, Fontaine.
