Released in Genshin Impact’s Version 2.1 update, fishing is a Game System that requires players to craft bait in order to catch different types of fish. To fish, players must first unlock Genshin Impact’s Serenitea Pot and complete a World Quest regarding an NPC, Nantuck, who is from the Mondstadt Fishing Association. Then, players will only need bait and a suitable fishing location to begin.
Apart from the event-exclusive Glowgrass Bait used to catch the limited Ornamental Moonfin fish, there are four types of bait that are currently used for fishing in Genshin Impact. This includes the Fruit Paste Bait, Redrot Bait, False Worm Bait, and Fake Fly Bait. Bait type is important as different fish will be attracted to a specific type of bait.

There are Fishing Points all around Teyvat, and players can easily mark their locations on Genshin Impact’s map with the added Hook Pin. Fishing Points with available fish will be indicated by a ripple effect in the water. When there are no fish available, the ripple effect will disappear. New fish will respawn every 72 hours.
The formula for Fruit Paste Bait is obtained during the World Quest, Exploding Population. Afterward, players will be able to craft a set of ten with one Sunsettia and one wheat. By using the Fruit Paste Bait, players will be able to catch Medakas and all of its variants. The Salmon-colored Medaka is among the most common fish, found in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma. The purple variants — Glaze Medakas — can only be found in Inazuma while the yellow-orange variants — Sweet-Flower Medakas — can only be found in Liyue.
Some fish will require the help of Paimon in Genshin Impact to change the in-game time
