WWE 2K22 is out later this week, and we’ve put together this comparison gallery showing how 2K has upgraded the appearances of each wrestler in the game’s roster.
WWE 2K22 developer Visual Concepts has been using detailed scanning technology for a number of years now in its NBA 2K games. However, wrestling game fans were hugely critical of the superstar likenesses in WWE 2K20, saying many of them looked sub-par.
Visual Concepts claimed last year that it was using a new face scanning system for WWE 2K22, which uses 80 hi-res cameras to scan wrestlers’ faces from a variety of angles, and the results can now be seen below.
Naturally, the results are clearer with ‘current’ wrestlers (or at least those who weren’t released by WWE before scanning took place). ‘Legends’ wrestlers obviously couldn’t be scanned, either because they look noticeably older now or have passed away, and so had to be recreated through other means.
Both WWE 2K20 and WWE 2K20 have a character creation mode that lets you create new wrestlers, but also lets you edit the outfits and appearance of existing superstars.
Using this mode, we were able to zoom closely into the faces of each character in the game, allowing for a detailed comparison.
This isn’t every wrestler in the game, only the 130 or so who were in both the 2K20 and 2K22 versions of the game (thereby allowing a comparison).
In every image in the gallery below, the face on the left is taken from the Xbox One version of WWE 2K20, while the face on the right is from the Xbox Series X version of WWE 2K22.
