Korean Diablo 2 streamer 풍월량 (hanryang1125) has revealed the latest Runeword that will be released in the upcoming Patch 2.4: Flickering Flame, a Head Armor Runeword created with decent mid-game Runes. With +3 to Fire Skills and some interesting defensive properties, it seems geared toward any fire spec, but there are some reasons why it may be better for some than for others.
This has been translated from Korean, so these may not be 100% accurate. The demonstration item was placed in a Diadem, but it is probably a general Helm runeword.
We also do not know at this point if these numbers and percentages are static or part of a possible range: Flickering Flame Head Armor 'NefPulVex' Required Level: 64 Level 8 Resist Fire Aura When Equipped -13% to Enemy Fire Resistance +30% Enhanced Defense +30 Defense vs Missile +88 to Mana +5% to Maximum Fire Resist Half Freeze Duration Poison Length Reduced to 50% Socketed (3) This is an interesting addition to the collection of Head runewords, which is still only a small subset compared to Runewords available for chest, shields, and weapons. While the +3 to Fire skills makes it of obvious interest to any Fire-wielding class and spec such as fire Sorceress or fire Trapsins, it's probably best suited to Fire Druids.
Here are some observations made by the D2 team here at Wowhead:
We suspect that the Level 8 Resist Fire may actually be a possible range of possible levels. If it's static, this would give all players and minions within a 20 yard radius +106 Fire Resistance with a +8 to maximum resistance. However, you won't get the +4% maximum Fire Resistance that you would get if you were the Paladin putting points into the skill. The reduction in Enemy Fire Resistance will not work.
