Warner Bros. has unveiled the highly anticipated trailer for the upcoming prequel film Wonka, featuring Timothée Chalamet as the young and whimsical Willy Wonka. The trailer offers an exciting glimpse into the imaginative world of the iconic chocolatier, and even includes a sneak peek at Hugh Grant's portrayal of an Oompa-Loompa.
In Wonka, Chalamet's character finds himself pitted against a formidable chocolate cartel determined to hinder his pursuit of creating delectable confections. When the trailer originally premiered at CinemaCon, it was also revealed that Chalamet would appear in seven musical numbers. Check out the trailer below.
«To work on something that will have an uncynical young audience, that was just a big joy,» Chalamet told Vogue earlier this year. «That's why I was drawn to it. In a time and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there's so much bad news all the time, this is hopefully going to be a piece of chocolate.»
The cast includes Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Calah Lane, Colin O'Brien, Matt Lucas, Simon Farnaby, Natasha Rothwell, Rufus Jones, and others. The prequel aims to explore the beginnings of the young inventor before he becomes the renowned chocolate maestro.
Directed by Paul King, the Wonka prequel brings together a team that includes Farnaby, who co-wrote the script and also stars in the film, as well as producers David Heyman, Luke Kelly, and Alexandra Derbyshire.
Wonka is scheduled to hit theaters on December 15.
